Although shocked by the inhuman living conditions in El Salvador, three delegations from Holy Trinity Parish returned with more compassion and interest in service projects for the marginalized in the Salvadoran sister parish, but with a mixed interest in addressing the structural causes of poverty. These five means are explored through the research of individual interviews and the writings of deaf-blind people. The Army is a subculture of eclectic American society.  However, the soldier and family member face unique opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges.  This book of meditations incorporates, through blending biblical research and military experience, Army philosophy and terminology with Christian principles.  Their merger resulted in a compilation of meditations. Each meditation includes a prayer, Scripture, military quotation, spiritual devotional, hymn, and single sentence suggestion on many high-interest subjects. The church must know itself, its mission, and how to accomplish its mission in the most effective way.  Both staff and laity are better equipped for service with effective job descriptions.  Materials on offices in the church were gathered, studied, and then a committee received input, compiled the results into job descriptions and obtained official board approval. Churches that were declining appeared to have similar program and ministry dynamics. Likewise, churches that were growing numerically seemed to share administrative and programmatic traits. Desiring to maintain a balance between the church's call to evangelism and its need to nurture and care for its members, the author established a model of consultation that would assist congregations to consider what their call to ministry might be at that time in history.  This project-thesis is the test of the effectiveness of the model.  Results have been very positive.  The information about the nature of Christian ministry and the permission given to churches to choose their course of ministry appear to be strengths of the model. The leader used the socratic (open-ended questioning) method to enable participants to expand their awareness of the power of Scripture in their personal lives. A process was provided for daily prayer and meditation between sessions.  Sessions included meditation, writing in a journal, responding to questions, dialogue in small groups and becoming biblical characters.  Most participants found the model helpful in deepening their awareness of and relationship with others, including God.
