The author formed a group and practiced a 'mindfulness spirituality practice model' as a spiritual discipline. It was a model for healing and caring for depressed Christians. The author selected six participants who were struggling with depression, and this small group met for eight weeks. The participants showed positive changes with respect to their depressed feelings and anxiety. The author facilitated three six-week support groups in three different congregations, working with family members -- whether child, parent, spouse, or sibling -- who love someone with mental illness. The outcome of the group that went the entire six weeks supported the literature that peer-run support groups are an effective means of intervention. It also provided an avenue for people to discuss their own death and to begin the process of pre-planning their funerals as a way to celebrate their life story and take some of the burden off their family. Using traditional research methods and observations made from his ministry experience, the author created a workshop for members of his congregation.
