He examined biblical texts and early church writings to illustrate hospitality as an experience of grace. The author then raised questions regarding the appropriate personal and social responses to that grace. Because of his Katrina experience, both people and pastor re-learned that hospitality was a necessary practice in the faith community. Experiential worship in the Methodist revivalist spirit is the impetus through which Saint Peter United Methodist Church in Hamlet, North Carolina was revived.  Through direct observation, worship evaluations and candid interviews, the writer has discovered the benefits of this model as a pathway to revival. Using the Wesleyan quadrilateral to structure a theological foundation, the author argued that engagement in such concerns is essential to both. The author presented a project that provides one way to link the works of mercy to a congregation's understanding of its Christian identity and practice. The author completed the project by interviewing congregants who were engaged in the project. Biblical wisdom literature also provides guidance in navigating life situations (Roland Murphy, James Crenshaw).  The current study hypothesizes that high emotional intelligence will assist clergy in navigating critical leadership situations.  To test this hypothesis, twenty-six pastors were administered the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory.  A group profile was generated, and some findings were significant.  Results have implications for hiring, evaluating, and training pastors. M. E. Zion Church to connect their story as African-Americans to the biblical story. The methods of research for this dissertation were: the author portraying biblical characters during Sunday morning worship services, the author's engaging in dramatic projects with congregation members, locating and incorporating theological and historical source material, and adapting theatrical concepts learned in undergraduate studies. The context was the Saint Paul Baptist Church, Capitol Heights, Maryland. Design was qualitative and quantitative involving four test churches of varying size and denomination. The field test churches were engaged in teaching, preaching and prayer activities over the course of twelve weeks. Pre- and post assessment tools were administrated. Data analysis revealed that the increase activities had a direct correlation to increase attendance and participation in corporate prayer.
