As a case study, the author uses qualitative research practices, describing the morphing process of this church from a church with a missions program to a multiethnic church. Based on the research, the author proposes a three-concentric-circle of missions to conceptualize the diaspora mission for the church. Based on God's treatment of five biblical heroes and augmented with insight from academic research, the author conceptualizes empowerment as helping someone (a) understand his place in God's big picture, and (b) engage his strengths to pursue God's purposes. Empowering people requires authentic relationship -- giving people your resources, trust, and blessing. The author shares the results of interviews with young men connected with churches on Oregon's south coast. Their candor is refreshing and instructive. A non-formal lay leadership training program can be implemented to provide adequate training to believers to become more mature and equipped for lay leadership to serve in the local church. It is concluded that The New Life Training Curriculums (NLTC) can be a great tool to use as the non-formal lay leadership training program. The most effective approach to reach the Vietnamese diaspora has shown to be through human relationship. Even though the material content is the same, the implementation of this training in each country must be well thought out with planning and many prayers to help reach out to the new immigrants in their midst and continue the process of discipleship and equipping believers to become leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132036707123200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:57:00.700Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:14:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:54:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"31299f05-c873-43a2-81bc-3b1e5edc89fe","accessControl_ssim":["df2854e8-40b3-4ddd-bac3-8b741f94fe8e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A historical study of the formation and development of Christian National's evangelism commission--Partners International (1943-2012)"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:14:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["45cadcdd-7bf6-42e7-8f2d-fedb7d6fb8ee"],"hasLease_ssim":["3839dfca-75cc-4fca-81ab-7b34b6522b92"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Enoch Wan"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Chichun Paul Lee"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Seminary (Portland, OR)"],"subject_tesim":["Partnership (Christian missions)","Partners International","History","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Partners International (PI), formerly known as Chinese Evangelistic Crusade (C.N.E.C.) was founded in 1940s. Advancements in communication and transportation have enabled people to live more dispersed from one another. This lack of proximity has created a commuter culture. This dissertation looks at the concept of community both biblically and theologically. The digital age has produced an abundance of technological communication tools. This work examines their importance in developing and in hindering community. The concept of 'missionality' as a key to forming community with traditional attractional churches is also presented.
