The project's strength is in its theological reflection on the church's mission regarding AIDS.  A mail survey was used to assess the impact of AIDS on the parochial ministries of pastors serving parishes in the Metropolitan Association, New York Conference, United Church of Christ. The first is a survey of literature illustrating how the AIDS crisis constellates an overwhelming array of psychosocial stressors on the person infected by HIV and his or her's 'family of origin' and 'family of choice'.  The second applies three tenets of family systems theory (Bowen theory) and shows how it is an effective and appropriate mode of intervention into the 'family ' with AIDS.
