It understands this tradition of evangelism to be the convergence of two historical traditions.  The first is formal structured evangelistic activity of northern antebellum Black churches. The second tradition is informal, spontaneous activity which has its roots in the southern slave plantations of the so-called 'invisible' institutions. The motivation of potential participants may be blocked because the members fear they will be blamed for family weaknesses.  This project tests an intergenerational workshop which stresses six strengths of Black families.  A theology based on the belief that humans are created in God's image and on the NT image of the household of faith supports the project. The workshop considers the biblical families of Moses and Ruth.  It effectively attracts participants and enables the sponsoring committee to plan for follow-up.
