Experiential worship in the Methodist revivalist spirit is the impetus through which Saint Peter United Methodist Church in Hamlet, North Carolina was revived.  Through direct observation, worship evaluations and candid interviews, the writer has discovered the benefits of this model as a pathway to revival. To validate this theory, the author proposed to introduce into the St. John Baptist youth mentoring program a component of remembering, reclaiming, and sharing stories in the African American tradition, to encourage faith and promote academic performance.  The author researched literature to substantiate the significance of storytelling as a transforming experience.  Research included stories of ancestors, the Black church tradition and personal life stories. The project surveys both the academic disciplines of Black liberation theology and educational theory as well as their implications for Christian educational ministries within the Black church. It also gathers by questionnaire data from 20 youth who participated in two seminars concerning Black history and self-esteem.
