Quantitative and qualitative analysis indicated a positive change in participants' understanding and attitude suggesting greater openness to help those with HIV/AIDS."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Denver Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7af129f-938f-4821-9463-dc6ded35d563"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134052474945536,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:03.086Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:04:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:48:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8172b6c3-42fd-473a-90de-c8458bbf946c","accessControl_ssim":["520cb565-f753-4ae2-a5db-ad3098a0b762"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["HIV/AIDS: an examination of the African-American church response to the epidemic in America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:04:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:57:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["73609d30-7604-4020-b3b5-c3a52e5a63b3"],"hasLease_ssim":["6565406f-58f9-4256-a488-727aadee88e9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David A Currie"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary A Leonard"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["African Americans","African American churches","HIV (Viruses)","Medicine, Preventive"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["HIV disproportionately affects people of color, suggesting a need for innovative prevention programs and collaborations as part of prevention efforts. Lack of basic HIV/AIDS knowledge, risky behavior, religious conservatism, stigma, fear of status being exposed to other community members, and socioeconomic issues are some factors that contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS within African-American populations. African Americans have close ties to the church, but the African American churches, until recently, have been slow to address HIV prevention. Several successful churches and faith based/public health collaborations were identified, with some limitations within these programs discussed, but too many are doing nothing. This study examines the community churches and reviews the empirical literature on faith-based HIV prevention programs among African American populations. It was originally located in a predominantly African-American community to serve that growing population. However, things have changed and now many of the original members and their families have moved away and the church has seen dramatic demographic changes to its surrounding community. The original vision of having a warm and welcoming place to worship has long been accomplished, now it is time for the church to take a fresh look at its circumstances and seek a new vision for the future. This project will seek to help the leaders of Zion Baptist Church discern a fresh vision for the church. During the process the leadership team will be exposed to the realities of their original biblical purpose, current ministry context, and available resources. This project seeks to affirm that there is hope for older traditional churches to find a way out of the past and into a rapidly changing future."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131032187043840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:41:02.715Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:50:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:06:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5d70793e-32d6-433a-a7a6-d34f569555cb","accessControl_ssim":["ef53d696-e825-4552-936a-f7c854c3ec04"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The black church's response to HIV/AIDS"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:50:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:52:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7f9e0e9b-659a-450d-8d9b-2b12cad0fb05"],"hasLease_ssim":["c57817ce-e2da-42eb-8067-d556aa8004da"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred D Smith"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. By utilizing research and statistics, the writer sought to determine what the African American houses of worship are doing or not doing and what is needed going forward to help eradicate HIV/AIDS. What the writer discovered as a result of research, interviews, and workshops was that some of the clergy in the city and across the state of New Jersey were willing to start an HIV/AIDS ministry in their churches. The writer also documented the fact that there were those among the clergy willing to have someone come to their church once a quarter to speak on HIV/AIDS. Others were willing to put HIV/AIDS facts in their Sunday morning bulletins... Other pastors committed to providing pastoral care and counseling to those who were infected and affected. Some were willing to preach sermons on HIV/AIDS, place HIV/AIDS material in their houses of worship, and to have condom demonstration sessions set up for both males and females as part of the New Jersey Human Development Corporation's objective of education and prevention."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716708058923008,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:06:41.283Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":105,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
