Psychological assessment, sociological perspective, and theological analysis are necessary to an understanding of the spirituality of African American males and their relationships to churches. Masculinity issues and anger are primary psychological factors. Societal definitions of masculinity, institutions of male socialization, and work's relationship to self-esteem are crucial sociological influences. The role of the church, anthropomorphisms in relation to images of evil, the earthly father image in relation to the heavenly father image, and the contrast of the Nation of Islam with Christian churches offer essential theological insight. The study was conducted in selected independent churches across the country who had reported success with outreach to African-American males. In all, 558 males were surveyed and interviewed.  Data collected from this study revealed that churches that were reaching African-American males offered strong male leadership, relevant Bible teaching, and men's fellowship groups, and were intentional in their outreach to African-American males. A seven-week stimulus was implemented.  It included an orientation, seven classes, four sermons, a mentoring component, and a graduation ceremony.  Quantitative and qualitative analysis instruments-- pre-test/post-test and interviews-- showed a statistically significant increase in the sample population's participation in church activities and knowledge of church terms. The T.P.M. was a 24-week intervention program divided into 6-week modules. Each module was used to nurture the physical, psychological, and spiritual development of African American males, at the University Community Christian Church, located at 2171 Avondale Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46218. The Linear Analytic Model included: role play, group discussion, lectures, direct observation, prayer, and scripture. Concluded results from the T.P.M. data analysis indicated improved self-esteem and a more defined self-image among those who
