Psychological assessment, sociological perspective, and theological analysis are necessary to an understanding of the spirituality of African American males and their relationships to churches. Masculinity issues and anger are primary psychological factors. Societal definitions of masculinity, institutions of male socialization, and work's relationship to self-esteem are crucial sociological influences. The role of the church, anthropomorphisms in relation to images of evil, the earthly father image in relation to the heavenly father image, and the contrast of the Nation of Islam with Christian churches offer essential theological insight. This project offers strategies to reverse patterns of declining spirituality, adherence, and attendance among African American males."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129119842369536,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:10:38.961Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Jacquelyn Donald-Mims","hits":1,"label":"Jacquelyn Donald-Mims"},{"value":"Leonard L Hamlin","hits":1,"label":"Leonard L Hamlin"},{"value":"Mitchell M Walker","hits":1,"label":"Mitchell M Walker"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Self-knowledge","hits":1,"label":"Self-knowledge"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"African Americans--Religion","hits":3,"label":"African Americans--Religion"},{"value":"African American learning and scholarship","hits":1,"label":"African American learning and scholarship"},{"value":"African American men","hits":1,"label":"African American men"},{"value":"Black theology","hits":1,"label":"Black theology"},{"value":"Church development, New","hits":1,"label":"Church development, New"},{"value":"Church work with men","hits":1,"label":"Church work with men"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":1,"label":"United States"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":3,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Howard University School of Divinity","hits":1,"label":"Howard University School of Divinity"},{"value":"United Theological Seminary (OH)","hits":1,"label":"United Theological Seminary (OH)"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":3,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1996","hits":3,"label":"1996"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Miscellaneous","hits":1,"label":"Miscellaneous"},{"value":"United Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"United Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Columbia Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"Columbia Theological Seminary"},{"value":"Howard University","hits":1,"label":"Howard University"},{"value":"United Theological Seminary","hits":1,"label":"United Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":3,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":3,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
