It describes how alcoholism is a shared disease, affecting not only the identified alcoholics but also the systems to which they belong. Using family systems theory, the study suggests parallels between family and church. It shows that just as a family in the process of maintaining stability incorporates dysfunctional behavior, so too does the church. Of interest is the God-image, one of many other object relations created by a child while in relationship with the alcoholic parent. This image of God persists throughout life unless either events or personal effort causes it to change. Based upon this image, a person forms characteristics of God that profoundly affect the way she/he relates to God and the environment. Each subject was asked questions from modified and abbreviated Rizzuto 'Family' and 'God' questionnaires. After answering questions about each parent, the subjects were asked to mark sixteen word-pairs in accordance with how they related to each one. Finally, they were asked questions about God and marked sixteen identical word-pairs. The results supported the hypothesis that the characteristics of God that these women formed as children were similar to the characteristics of their alcoholic parent."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134409439576064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:34:43.514Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:08:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8716bc21-1538-4d9e-8d9e-ae0648d2a3e0","accessControl_ssim":["8856f12c-3710-4b8b-a827-7e4a6a05b08c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A rationale and methodology for ministry with college age adult children of alcoholics"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:08:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:06:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2f93d38d-6b08-43fd-9a5c-93ed9a4a280f"],"hasLease_ssim":["7218a343-1020-4965-b4e9-bd4e2da9e059"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Emma J Justes"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janice Hazekamp"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Alcohol","Church work with students","Parent and child--Religious aspects--Christianity","Alcoholism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project focuses on ministry to alcoholic families, specifically on adult children of alcoholics. It presents a non-residential treatment program which meets the needs of each type of problem-drinker while focusing also on the common need to find wholeness and healing in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133641660694528,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:22:31.303Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:52:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:13:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"17759fcb-8daa-4efa-a89a-918bc8fb28a8","accessControl_ssim":["eab37271-f6f0-448a-9fbe-5872a2285502"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Adult children of alcoholic parents and the parish ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:52:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:48:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["49f6ec47-c3a0-4203-9a1c-89bf8791a857"],"hasLease_ssim":["961b08e5-d078-4c32-b9c8-0495eae83b73"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bruce Ashley Dyer"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Alcohol","Vocation, Ecclesiastical","Case method","Alcoholism","Parent and child--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project describes the redemptive hope that those growing up within alcoholism need not remain amidst the pain of the past. Church judicatory personnel too frequently respond as if alcoholism is a matter of will and moral weakness. This posture impedes recovery and contributes to the downward spiral of the clergy alcoholic and his or her family. The project offers a model for ministry which helps church judicatory personnel and local church clergy persons become actively involved in the recovery of clergy alcoholics. The model incorporates four specific issues related to recovery: identification, intervention, treatment, and co-dependency. The pervasive nature of the disease includes the co-dependency of the alcoholic's entire family. This document contributes a consultation which is designed to enlighten judicatory personnel and other clergy who are concerned both with the recovery of clergy alcoholic and with his or her return to effective ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720543586353152,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:07:39.127Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":36,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
