Systematic precautions against suicide in Korea, however, are insufficient compared to other developed countries. In the Korean military, suicide is the number one cause of death, and personal and family wounds caused by suicide are a major and difficult problem. The author researched suicide prevention education for chaplain assistants so that it could be more effective. Many topics were discussed, including what chaplain assistants can strive for in terms of suicide prevention for soldiers who are living together with them in the army. This exploratory study is conducted with one Army battalion from Fort Knox, Kentucky, that participates in an extended field exercise at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. The official line is 'cooperation without compromise'.  However, this study points out that compromise is often the most expedient step toward career success and must be guarded against by the evangelical chaplain.
