A questionnaire was disseminated and the results indicate that spiritual vitality is considered essential to doing the job of a Christian Navy Medicine chaplain.  The overwhelming majority of participants also indicated that practicing time management and self-care are extremely important. The author discovered 'missing pieces' pertaining to interrelationships among family members, in each counseling theory considered, and found that many of those 'missing pieces' were present in Scripture.  The author's goal is to integrate theology with counseling theory in the form of curriculum. To test the thesis three methods of research are utilized: investigating literature on the subject of liberation theology and pastoral advocacy; analyzing three case studies; and a group discussion with seven chaplains to evaluate the data.  The chaplains concur that the project/thesis is a viable model to implement as one mode of pastoral counseling in the military chaplaincy. Statistical studies revealed that the suicide rate, for the past five years, has been 2.8 times the state average.  A program module was designed to raise the level of awareness, of the danger signs of suicide, in those serving in positions of leadership in the Indiana National Guard.  The research includes a study of the context of ministry, psycho-social and biblical-theological aspects of suicide. The project develops suicide prevention classes and techniques utilizing logotherapy techniques.  Stress-related anxiety and pressures of basic combat training are addressed.  Also included is a suicide prevention class developed and presented to the major commanders in an Army installation.
