After interviewing ten Asian American churches in the northeastern United States in regards to their discipleship processes, and reviewing selected literature on discipleship, a process was developed. Churches in the United States often struggle to effectively equip believers with a strong foundation in the Word of God and to multiply by making disciples. The lack of relationships within the church body that encourage and guide spiritual formation, and discipleship that does not integrate transparent relationships, mutual accountability, and biblical truth, are part of the cause. The preacher needs to analyze the ministerial context and invite the congregation to share their concerns, interests and questions about preaching. It suggests that the preacher should withdraw his/her controlling power over the congregation so that the laity can work together with the preacher by sharing the ministry, including preaching. The project shows how congregations discern God's lead in decision making through their daily life situation, social contexts, and various other circumstances.  The central task of this project is to trace the path of the planning process that KUMCGW pursued to discern God's plan and analyze the various factors that worked together to attain it.  With biblical, theological, and historical research, the varied ways of discernment are summed up in two categories: the realistic/rationalistic way and the pietistic/mystical way of discernment. Five leaders were selected and equipped in cognitive ability, skills and affect for six months.  This equipping process included six training sessions, implementing the core elements of small group ministry: effective leadership, good community environment, balanced small group activities into the small groups and individual monthly mentoring.  All the leaders demonstrated spiritual growth and improved their understanding of the concepts and practical skills of doing small group ministry. The author formulated guidelines for the process of merging through the examination and evaluation of two case studies of mergers between White and Asian American congregations, and information available through business, non-profit and church resources. The guidelines were sent to church leaders who have been involved or are currently involved in mergers between White and non-White congregations.
