Data gained from the research and used in conjunction with existing literature yields an assimilation model which enables new members to enter into the life of the congregation with greater acceptance of responsibilities and with greater awareness of the opportunities for discipleship in the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718685048307712,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:38:06.687Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:15:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d2cc8483-cd41-452d-b67b-82a5a93c1afb","accessControl_ssim":["e96f9b3b-5bfd-47b6-b791-357320c59b7c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Facilitating the nurture of new church members"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:15:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:09:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["66d99265-5afd-4ef3-8688-facac4cb98d8"],"hasLease_ssim":["da5937f8-207a-4bcd-a966-7540efb09e2e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory L Adkins"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Assimilation (Sociology)","Methodist class meetings","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Christian nurture is an attempt to create an environment where the scriptures and traditions of the church interact with individual life stories. In a small group setting, based on the concepts of the Wesleyan class meeting and faith development theory, the author initiated a pilot program on new member nurture. The major problem addressed is how to sustain those who become members of the church. The primary result was that both old and new members discovered a nurturing environment within the context of the larger institutional church.
