The church can be more meaningful in people's lives when it is actually practicing congregational love.  Congregational love has three balanced shapes: sharing, suffering and discipleship. Congregational love for newcomers is necessary for the local church to be open to and inclusive of new people. Theologically supported, the model used education, communication, and social psychology disciplines. Classes, discussions, and social activities over five months formed the model. Caucasian church members, ethnic adherents, and unchurched ethnics of the local community participated.  It was effective for increasing ethnic growth in the church. Increased cultural knowledge and understanding motivated Caucas to ethnic outreach. This project tested the thesis that the initial commitment of new church members to the congregation could be strengthened as the church helped new members discover and utilize their spiritual gifts in ministry.  The project involved six teaching sessions on spiritual gifts and a five-week ministry experience, matching new members' spiritual gifts with ministry needs within the church. The project did so through the high school's active support of parish youth retreats, through encouragement of student involvement in the ministries of the parish and through providing school time and space for interaction of the parish staffs and their youth on a quarterly basis.  A pre- and post-project self-report questionnaire was administered to the student participants as a means of determining the success of the project. A sermon series identifying what constitutes active church membership was presented to the congregation; a pretest-posttest opinionnaire was used to determine its effectiveness.  The author developed a model encourager program which included a membership committee and an eight-session encourager training course.  The effectiveness of the course was measured by the experimental method. The practice of ministry in a congregation made up of people of a variety of ethnic origins will encounter problems resulting from ethnic and cultural differences.  In order for the congregation to be integrated into a working and worshipping whole, these differences must be identified and appreciated.  In-depth interviews of eight family units chosen from the traditional congregation and recent-comers from Guyana were conducted, followed by three group meetings.  Transcripts were analysed, and the findings compared with the experience of similar congregations.
