A 'Life Map' is a contemporary term for a spiritual quest to make sense of one's whole life. This researcher discovered the practice with mentors who guided him through a church crisis at midlife using a Life Map. He subsequently led over fifty seminarians in construction of a Life Map as part of their preparation for ministry, observing a pattern of transformation for these adults. This project surveyed the graduates of Bethel Seminary of the East and interviewed eleven, finding solid confirmation for that hypothesis using statistical analysis and grounded theory. As secondary support for the hypothesis, he explored the theme of spiritual formation and transformation in an Old and New Testament character study. This project also surveyed research literature on a noted spiritual formation model, findings from narrative psychology, and an outline of a history of spiritual autobiography. Planning an interactive day for members and explorers of the grail -- a spiritual movement based in Loveland, OH, this researcher included holistic methods as a means for sharing the story of the grail. Seventeen members/explorers attended the day-long retreat 'Eternal compositions: spiritual autobiography and the women of the grail' and engaged in creative modalities recounting the stories of the grail. Evidence of the effectiveness was provided as participants completed a personal vision statement.  Twelve women participated in a retreat, four-week small group experience and concluding celebration.  All said the experience positively impacted their ability to deal with midlife issues. In two workshops with a total of 26 persons, the project assigns participants to read Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton, or Surprised by Joy by C S Lewis. Each participant must read all of one of the works and parts of the other two. As they work through these texts participants compose a spiritual autobiography, outlining it at the beginning and completing it for presentation at the end of the workshop. Writing a spiritual autobiography becomes an excellent way for these Christians to understand their pilgrimages.
