Baptism is defined in chapter 1 as a public vow of submission to Christ.  A pre-test and post-test was given to a control group to measure growth in their knowledge of baptism and level of commitment because of the claims of baptism.  Chapter 2 focuses on the historical, biblical, and theological aspects of baptism. Attention was given to current trends within the Southern Baptist Convention. Chapter 3 describes the preparation of the church, including a sermon series and a testimony service.  Chapter 4 describes the seminar on baptism.  The seminar contained 12 sessions and was developed from the research material of chapter 2. The basic idea is that baptism represents a paradigm shift from culture to the Kingdom of God. Addiction is a paradigm -- a world-forming power. Recovery is a paradigm shift also.  There are many similarities between the Kingdom of God and recovery paradigms.  The method is researched from a Wesleyan quadrilateral approach. Local churches should be more intentional and effective in their approach to baptismal instruction.  This project involved the development of a program of baptismal instruction, including the development of a baptismal policy by the local church session, the preparation of printed materials and a seminar for parents as well as a sermon series on baptism for the congregation.  The major conclusion reached is that the model of a group seminar can be effective as a teaching device as well as a tool for assimilating people into the congregation. The study also gives a model for baptismal preparation.  The method of study is a survey sent to two groups, adults who were baptized when junior youth and pastors and teachers in the KS-NE conference. The results show that the expectations differ between the two groups with respect to peer influence, personal conviction, and religious behavior. A centuries-old tradition which denies the integrity of initiation challenges the church.  This study reviews the history of Christian initiation, focusing on its disintegration, and reports an attempt to reintegrate Christian initiation in one congregation. The project instructs worship leaders and congregations in the overall theology of baptism and how to express that theology through the design and implementation of a baptismal liturgy.  The project was implemented in two phases.  The first was an eight-week study of the institution, meanings, and practice of baptism. The second phase was to design and implement a baptismal liturgy that focused on the celebration of baptism as an act of worship. Conflict seems to arise more from teachings than from actual experience.  Research included a scriptural study of baptism and the Spirit using charismatic and non-charismatic sources and interviews with thirty people who claimed the experience.  The author compared an analysis of the experiences with the results of the scriptural study to determine if an alternate to charismatic theology could be offered.
