New member assimilation can be best improved by developing a healthy system that new members may join.  The project involved 10 church members in an eight-week study using lectures, group dialogue, and psychological instruments. The project for the study was an experiment in participatory preaching.  A control group selected from the congregation of the First Baptist Church (Elberton, Georgia) evaluated the effectiveness of four sermons preached at the church.  The sermons were examples of participatory preaching.
