By means of a survey, the author discovered the scenarios in which historical geography had most affected its students. The research demonstrates historical geography remains indispensable to biblical interpretation, provides a greater confidence in the Bible as God's Word, and instills a greater love for God and the Bible. After discussing the biblical and theological mandates for apologetics as well as the development of the current postmodern worldview, a case is made that the church needs to respond with a well-reasoned worldview/philosophical argument for the authority and inspiration of the Bible.     A description of the project is given, describing the process from promotion to evaluation. The primary content of the project was a sermons series which was supplemented by an apologetics class. This work contains a brief description of the sermons and a synopsis of the major apologetic arguments of each.     The final chapter provides a description of the empirical data derived from the evaluation of a focus group, and the conclusions were clear. The thesis suggests that if United Methodists, in particular, can understand the differing ways they hold the Bible as authoritative, they will be better able to respect others' beliefs, and be more likely to live visibly the unity about which they read in the Scriptures.  Research on sociology, education, and small group theory are shared. Categories of biblical interpretation based on how different persons hold the Bible as authoritative are presented. The first lesson defines terms and uses a questionnaire to determine the understanding of biblical authority and interpretation held by each participant. Subsequent lessons investigate various approaches to these issues, including a sermon by each theologian. The project revealed some forgotten trajectories that shed light on such texts as Matthew 24, 2 Thessalonians 2, and Romans 11. The project concludes that the earliest Christians expected a heavenly kingdom on earth as promised in Daniel 7 and 9, and that this 'restorationist' theology remained active until the third century AD.
