It focuses primarily on practical techniques which laypersons can use to interpret the Bible. This process entails a cycle of four readings and seven interpretive questions. Primary emphasis is placed on using the guidelines from normal human language and the original author's intent to approach the text of Scripture. The practical analytical procedures allow laypersons to do individual Bible study with the incremented incorporation of research tools and study aids. A questionnaire which follows an eight hour presentation shows that the techniques are helpful and readily accepted."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721524076216320,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:23:14.195Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:50:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:43:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ace4d32c-c1f0-4201-a639-6d6b8b6c7850","accessControl_ssim":["9220a4c7-d39e-4678-998c-704c3ed90781"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The lost coin: guiding a congregation in reclaiming feminine biblical images for God and incorporating them into life and worship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:50:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:07:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e81ef25f-458e-4cf8-bb3e-71bbce882bb6"],"hasLease_ssim":["7c28fbf9-9e55-4bde-8347-5c2382b739b3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Susan L Nelson"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kathryn Irish Filer"],"keyword_tesim":["Feminist theology"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Femininity of God","Lost coin (Parable)","Feminist criticism","Bible--Criticism, interpretation","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project presents the thesis that inclusive language about God that refers to God as both Father and Mother is essential if a church wishes to be faithful to the Bible and to affirm the religious faith and experience of both men and women. Its authority has been lost because modern Christians have not been taught 'what' the Old Testament is. It is not a book of science, history, or anthropology. Because some think that it is this type of book, modern readers consider the Old Testament to be in conflict with their culture, experience and science. The project introduces the cultural milieu of Israel, the mythological backgrounds of the Old Testament, the literary genre, the history of interpretation, and Protestant authority bases. It develops a hermeneutic, that can be used in the local church, which says, 'The WORD is not the words, the WORD is in the words'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7d2ba5b6-aeec-459a-aaec-e1eed75d32f0"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134548029865984,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:36:55.683Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:42:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:32:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e3e72d15-3fc7-4f55-8ee0-abea48784c24","accessControl_ssim":["00711016-8799-47d6-a713-7b32d77aee46"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Claiming the Bible: feminist biblical interpretation and the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:42:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:38:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["60d76b2a-7021-4b7e-b05f-dfecbbb7e412"],"hasLease_ssim":["a4e42539-b766-4f86-83ef-9888622d91d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John D Godsey"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This project contributes to this task. In an adult study class in a local church the author uses feminist biblical hermeneutics to enable lay persons to discover and articulate their own hermeneutic. This process allows for the emergence of greater congruence between an inherited view of the Bible and a view which functions in accord with experience.
