Bible application is prescriptive. What happens when the preacher faces a multiethnic audience? How can the preacher communicate the truth of scripture, if the audience doesn't share the common characteristics that facilitate communication and understanding? Although this undertaking concentrates on ministers in the Middle District Baptist Association, the author realizes the same challenges exist among untrained clergy elsewhere. Leading ministers to reach an informed understanding of text as they investigate selected text through questions pertaining to the literal, the historical, and the contextual analysis of a passage contribute to informed understanding. Through an exegetical guide developed as a result of this project, ministers learn to analyze scriptures in a meaningful way that better prepares the preaching of the Gospel. Primary research in this project proves that untrained clergy can benefit from preparation in authorial intent. This project sought to increase the effectiveness of teaching and preaching Hebrew narratives in the local church via a five week seminar to equip participants in discovering the central thrust of Old Testament narratives. Goals and objectives were established, relevant data gathered, analyzed from volunteers. An analysis of the data revealed notable improvements in the participants' overall effectiveness in teaching narrative. Pastors fail to preach the Old Testament because it has cultural, linguistic, and hermeneutical challenges. Pastors preach it incorrectly when they fail to connect it with Christ. The purpose of this study was to understand the Old Testament sermon preparation process employed by pastors who preach Christ-centered sermons. Christ-centered Old Testament preaching is often neglected, and therefore the subject is relevant to every Christian preacher of God's word, and by extension to all congregations. This study employed a qualitative design using a semi-structured interview process with six preachers from various Presbyterian and Baptist denominations. Using a Bible written in a commoner-friendly language is essential for the effective work of contemporary ministry. However, those churches that are willing to make the change from the KJV to a contemporary version are faced with a lack of guidelines and principles to help them navigate the transition. In an effort to fill this void, this study examined the change process of a Baptist congregation which transitioned from the King James Version to a modern-language Bible as its primary worship text. The findings confirmed that transitioning from the antiquated wording of the KJV to a contemporary-language version was beneficial to the members and the ministries of the congregation. She decided to look more closely at the process that takes place between reading the text and up to the point of delivering the sermon.  She read the literature to look for different methods to increase and release creativity.  She gathered a group of respondents to listen to and afterwards discuss three of her sermons which she was to prepare using these methods.  Her goal was to see if they could tell any difference in her way of preaching before and after the usage of these methods.  After applying the different methods to her sermon preparation, the focus group could not see any difference, and the author still had her anxiety. With this integration the preacher is both the leader of lament and celebrant of God's presence.
