During the years of the Corona Virus pandemic, numbers of digitally mediated meetings via Zoom skyrocketed. Likewise, many churches that previously conducted the Alpha Course via the in-person format made a transition to offer the Alpha Online Course. This research project has sought to understand and articulate the spiritual dynamics of an Alpha Online Course with particular attention to\r\npeople who converted to faith through the online medium. This researcher explored how a local church might spread the gospel and reach people effectively in the digital realm through interactive online meetings, and why it should consider this way of evangelism as a viable means of evangelism.\r\n\r\nIncorporating evidence from literature, Scripture, participant observation, and twenty qualitative interviews, this study argues that the Alpha Course offered via the Zoom video conference has the potential to create a social space that is equal to if not preferred to in person courses. Alpha Course Online is an effective means of evangelism. It provides the participant(s) as well as the facilitator(s) with a means to balance the degree of closeness and distance. \r\n\r\nIn contrast to in-person Alpha Courses, Alpha Online provides people an opportunity to participate in emotionally and spiritually engaging meetings. This study shows that participants adjust quickly to the digital format and in this setting may engage in discussion, expressing their thoughts clearly and handling their emotions self-responsibly without embarrassment. The Alpha Course Online allows both intimacy and privacy at the same time. It enables people to reach a deeper level of conversation more quickly than expected. Hence, Alpha Online is more than a supplement; it represents a possible solution to overcome reservations of facilitators, as well as participants regarding evangelism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default It describes how I changed from an agnostic to a Christian and from a worldly leader to a servant leader. To do so, it combines three documents written during my DMin: my Leadership Narrative, my Philosophy of Christian Leadership, and my Project Report. Each of these tells part of the story of my growth. During my studies, my skills as a marketplace missionary, coaching mentor, business consultant, and leadership instructor developed a great deal, which gave me the confidence and courage I needed to introduce a new paradigm of Christian development to my Korean Canadian community. To achieve this purpose, I studied resilience and began my research project, which sought to answer the question, “Can I design a process that will help Korean leaders develop their resilience?” The Project Report describes how I tried to do so. Six executive leaders at three Korean non-profit organizations in Toronto participated in the project. Case Study Research was my primary methodology, which allowed me to discover each individual participant’s experiences as they went through the resilience training. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis were used to determine the findings, outcomes, and interpretations of this project. It had positive outcomes, with participants’ experience suggesting that resilience can be improved by being educated in the right environment and being nurtured by a trusted person through one-on-one coaching conversations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133820033957888,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:25:21.413Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:01:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:51:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2319b3aa-42fc-4e2f-adbd-b20d010f6a80","accessControl_ssim":["2984376b-9c03-46e7-91f5-8a471ad38c79"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Gender Dysphoria And The Question Of Membership In The Local Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:01:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:10:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5a2d9769-4f60-49d2-afe3-7aaf48ebb47d"],"hasLease_ssim":["3c8dbc38-6618-4776-8087-e0b12af02528"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Christian Worldview"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Tim Deahl Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Shane A. The cultural touchstones of recent years include racially motivated protesting and rioting, claims of systematic racism and white supremacy, climate crisis, record-level inflation, a rise in cultural interest in neo-Marxist and socialist ideas, supply-chain gridlock, claims of election fraud, and record-high crime rates throughout the country. Another of these cultural touchstones, and the contextual focus of this project, is the active attempt of America’s increasingly secular culture to deconstruct and redefine sex, gender, and other sexual norms. The zeitgeist of this cultural moment includes a decoupling of sex and gender, and an attempt to encourage and normalize transgender identities and/or gender fluidity. This cultural deconstructionism also runs contra to the Christian worldview and Judeo-Christian values which introduces unique theological and ecclesiological challenges within the local church context. Among these challenges is the question of how to faithfully approach local church membership decisions with candidates who personally experience the burdens of gender ideology—which is the focus of this project."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131700401537024,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:51:39.974Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:31:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:25:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"525d6d1d-1eb2-45da-8c9a-a05558d2d109","accessControl_ssim":["0c19616a-3a67-4c58-9c49-33d7eb4e67e3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparing The Soil For Preaching Catholic Social Teaching Through Empathetic Narrative"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:31:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:32:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["add78e1c-f3d0-4b51-9886-956c248eb6c4"],"hasLease_ssim":["a984853a-816f-4e0c-b113-26f95c9db6bf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Nathan Chase Ph.D.","Sara Fairbanks O.P. The study was conducted with seventy-four volunteers and six permanent deacons in the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The study used a combination of quantitative and qualitative surveys and interviews. The hypothesis explored was whether or not the use of narrative techniques, specifically Narrative 4 story exchange would be useful as a technique for preparing congregations to be open to the challenges presented by Catholic social teaching. Additionally, the research sought to determine whether or not the six deacons who participated in the study would find narrative a useful technique in their preaching and evangelization efforts.Participants completed an empathy profile before viewing one of seven different videos produced by the United States Conference of Bishops on the Life and Dignity of the Human Person; the Call to Family, Community, and Participation; the Option for the Poor and Vulnerable; Rights and Responsibilities; Solidarity; Care for God’s Creation; and the Dignity of Work. Participants were asked to rate the videos and indicate how often they heard preaching of the subject matter of the videos. Participants were also given the opportunity to participate in a Narrative 4 story exchange. Participants were then asked to complete the Interpersonal Reactivity Index a second time to see if there was a statistically significant change in their empathy profile. In addition, participants were asked to evaluate their experience with the story exchange. While there was no significant statistical change, as measured by the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, the interviewees demonstrated a high level of approval for the story exchange as a vehicle for improving the empathetic response of a congregation and as a useful technique for use in the preaching of Catholic social teaching."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130070865149952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:45.927Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:18:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eeee1d2a-ce8d-46b7-ac6b-fd01efc99425","accessControl_ssim":["03cb8731-52ee-4b76-8a06-80ffced818eb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing And Evaluating A Biblical Parenting Resource In Media Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:18:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:57:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a45521e8-7ddf-49d3-a92e-dbd90482d718"],"hasLease_ssim":["8f7bab74-ed74-455a-98d4-dbaea10f5990"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert Keeley Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Steven Roy Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This study articulated a theoretical foundation of a biblical theology and review of pastoral practices on children and parenting, published a resource on biblical parenting for distribution through the Internet, and then asked the audience for feedback. The resource was rooted in a study of how the Bible regards both children and the task of parenting. The study also explored models of faith formation, pastoral parenting best practices, and a review of the religious landscape of contemporary youth. A 93-page electronic booklet (PDF) called “A Handbook of Biblical Parenting” was developed and shared with over a thousand people online, who were then invited via email to complete an online questionnaire. The response rate was less than 2%, yet the audience was demographically in line with the expected audience. Most respondents were actively parenting young children, expressed an improvement in their parenting confidence, and found the resource practical, using its ideas several times. Most considered faith important to their parenting and found the resource to be encouraging, biblical, and educational. Most consumed the PDF deeply, even though most used a handheld mobile device. Suffering in this region is deep and broad as poverty, addiction, and disparities are statistically evident. Although the region is filled with churches, missionary endeavors, and government programs, places like Eastern Kentucky continue to struggle. As the Church seeks to address these diseases of despair, it is imperative for Christian universities to address this suffering through critical pedagogy and a contextualized theology. By the development of an Appalachian liberation theology known as hollering theology, this research project took this new theology and imbedded it in two different college classes at the University of Pikeville. Through this project, it was discovered that the fundamental source of oppression in Central Appalachia is the damning stereotype of the hillbilly. This stereotype has been internalized and is now killing Appalachian Americans. In this study, hollering theology will be offered as a way to challenge the stereotype, give a new vision for God’s work in the region, and make known a hillbilly Christ, which seeks to empower students at UPIKE to engage themselves and their community in a critical and engaged way."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716686349205504,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:06:20.579Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:57:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:08:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b6eef799-d729-4c92-b118-505525638ffc","accessControl_ssim":["8aba7442-9b04-44b5-858a-4e4e22d62891"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Indigenous African Demonic Deliverance and its Transference into Pentecostalism with Subsequent Refining: Ghana and its Diaspora as a Case Study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:57:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:24:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["19d7e87a-69b9-44d1-aa34-35636948c9a0"],"hasLease_ssim":["43dda8af-7330-4029-83dc-8e1b0aa6b9c7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Intercultural Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Taylor Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Allan Effa Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2015"],"location_tesim":["South Africa","Africa","Ghana","Canada"],"resource_type_tesim":["Other Terminal Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Duane Sterling Sims M.A."],"subject_tesim":["Bible. Some of these questions include: “What drives Ghanaians to seek deliverance? How have they, historically, sought to deal with the spirit realm? How do they currently seek to deal with it? What are some of the differences between a traditional Ghanaian understanding and that of a Ghanaian Pentecostal view?”"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128992605011968,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:08:37.618Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:54:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:37:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0fa6af95-8df3-4e88-a05d-16347b9eba06","accessControl_ssim":["ffe993c4-331a-421a-b123-549b65d922fc"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Applying the Principles Taught in the Emotionally Healthy Church Through a Discipleship Workshop of Christians Within the A\u0026D Biker Ministries Congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:54:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:34:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6d600a71-a5bb-433c-ae2c-e9d3a5c458f4"],"hasLease_ssim":["55e1ef62-25bb-43d9-9bb3-b548185bbf5c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership","Ministry Management"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Gene Swanstrom D.Min.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Steven Roy Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
