Lay people are involved in conversations every day. Some of those conversations provide them with the opportunity to share spiritual insight, if they are prepared to do so. TRAINING LAY PERSONS is designed to provide that preparation. The manual takes into account the prevailing theory of how adults learn. Adults learn better through interactive dialogue rather than through lecture. This course guides the students to learn by involving them in a series of questions and answers. A significant portion of the manual focuses on equipping the students to be able to correctly understand the Bible by learning the observation, interpretation, and application model of Bible study. Then they will learn how to determine the main idea of a passage of Scripture. With these skills in hand, the learners will be equipped to effectively communicate the truth of the Bible in informal, non-preaching settings. The result is that the learners will be enabled to express the Christian faith by making clear statements of the gospel, by making value statements that are consistent with biblical truth, and by defending the faith when challenged."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132950666936320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:11:32.320Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:02:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:00:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bfb9f01b-62ba-40aa-94a5-d870dd975eb6","accessControl_ssim":["f422a155-c19a-4054-8a32-b688a220ca56"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The lion has roared: a seminar on preaching Old Testament poetry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:02:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:39:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f5fd6193-33d3-4383-8787-85e3c5f81f33"],"hasLease_ssim":["1e07d61b-92da-4190-8383-0a23b9df6d79"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tony Chester"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Poetry","Bible--Study","Teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of the work is that preachers should appreciate the form-content bond in poetry; that literary and rhetorical conventions create an 'effect' and embody meaning.
