A questionnaire measures the change in the participants' perception of their ability to understand and find meaning in biblical texts. Seven persons participated in the nine-week study, the first two being didactic sessions that covered worship and preaching.  They then participated in a Lenten Bible study-seminar of the New Common Lectionary texts. From the study, the author gained insights for the sermon. Utilizing a control group, the author conducted a pre-test and post-test. The group explored ways in which the canonical text and its claims confront, interpret, and reshape the individual stories of contemporary believers.  The works of Frederiick Buechner provided perspective, commentary, and a medium of exchange between the biblical world and the world of contemporary listeners. This paper applies hermeneutics to the parish using the context of the Kerygma Bible Study program.  Extensive hermeneutical research was done, especially emphasizing the writings of James A Sanders.  Liberation and feminist hermeneutics also were discussed. The thesis was that the church lived out of the 'peace' that Christ gave which included conflict in some instances.  The method of study was to formulate a socilogical exegetical model of biblical exegesis, apply that model to two pericopes in 1 and 2 Corinthians, and develop a leadership Bible study emphasizing the cohesive functions of conflict discovered in the exegesis. Central to the project are a set of Bible studies which assist the Australian church to consider issues raised by Aboriginal people during Australia's bicentennial celebrations, viz land rights, racism, the impact of history on the present, covenant and treaty. These principles were applied to the existing adult Bible study program.  Evaluation procedures revealed a positive move from a basic lecture style of teaching to a relational style of teaching. The assumption that underlies the project is that if teachers can experience intersection between personal story, personal experience, the biblical story, and faith community experience, to tell one will be to tell the other.  As a result, the Bible will become biographical, which makes it easier to communicate.  Teaching then will be discernibly different in the church education experience.  The project was a six-week teacher education experience for mid-high teachers that utilized denominational materials as the primary resource. Primary emphasis is placed on using the guidelines from normal human language and the original author's intent to approach the text of Scripture.  The practical analytical procedures allow laypersons to do individual Bible study with the incremented incorporation of research tools and study aids.
