For followers of Wesley the Bible is the Word of God in human words. But, its purpose is not fundamentally to show contradiction between humans and God. Its fundamental purpose is to show how people may become God-like in this life. The role of scripture is to encourage us to be Christ-like without denying the sinfulness of our nature apart from grace. This ministry project develops a Bible study program which reflects a Wesleyan view of the nature and role of scripture. Biblical insights on leadership and character are examined. The author interviews contemporary Christian leaders in every geographical region in the United States. Three of the fifteen questions discussed in selected interviews are evaluated carefully in this study. These questions cover moral failure, moral precautions and personal integrity. Responses to a fourth question which relates to servant leadership are woven into chapters four and five. Explanations are given for why many Christian leaders fail in the ministry. Suggestions are given regarding moral precautions for persons in ministry. The interviews show a strong conviction that personal honesty is directly related to moral purity. Christian leaders are encouraged to be men and women who are committed to godly character. The very heart of biblical leadership is centered around holy living."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132070819397633,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:57:33.232Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:26:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:53:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"36ba5b69-83eb-4b2d-b75f-c3887e54bad3","accessControl_ssim":["7edb010e-8760-4232-b082-42c5bd30bb3a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Biblical illiteracy in the church: an approach to the problem"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:26:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:42:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["07c48bc5-a64e-4975-94c2-be7f3779e27e"],"hasLease_ssim":["bc18582e-7758-4352-8b3a-9a0db07baa19"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robin L Welch"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Study","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["No abstract"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128050983763968,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:53:39.618Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:21:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:05:20Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7d8e51c1-c268-45ef-afae-963a63e68487","accessControl_ssim":["3f343629-fdd5-46af-884d-711a361a0e5b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Telling the story: hearing the Gospel as personal experience"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:21:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:50:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["69225c33-3ed0-446a-86b5-14315be22383"],"hasLease_ssim":["ac4f210d-1ae9-4840-b858-c57a87e850af"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas E Boomershine"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert I Harmon"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Narrative theology","Church work","Birmington United Methodist Church (Birmington, Ohio)","Experience (Religion)","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The goal of the project was to determine the value of narrative biblical storytelling in the program mission and ministry of a local church. The author taught Survey of the Old Testament at East Texas State University in the fall of 1985. The course design included an understanding of the Old Testament as a canon of liberation and the teaching model focused on the development of a dialogical relationship between the students and the material. Evaluation was carried out through a process of testing and personal interviews, and the author concluded that the model led the students to both cognitive and affective transformation and that teaching the Old Testament at a state university is a legitimate form of ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127136374882304,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:39:07.379Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":197,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
