The hypothesis upon which the project was based is that there is a direct relationship between the adequacy of one's pre-hermeneutic and the adequacy of one's interpretation of biblical texts.  A course of study of the Gospel of Matthew was prepared and taught to members of a local congregation to test the validity of the hypothesis. Testing procedures were designed and administered to measure the results of the course and the degree of biblical literacy achieved. The major method of study and research was a personal in-depth study of scripture.  The results of the project were twofold.  First, it was established that a need exists for such a workshop within the ministry framework of the local church. These poor self-images seem to produce low self-confidence which affects the way persons express themselves as Christians and as human beings.  A Bible study undergirded by an investigation concerning self-image in the Bible, process theology, and psychosynthesis was posited to enhance self-image.  Such a Bible study, with careful attention to using both hemispheres of the brain, was constructed. First, the New Testament was read chronologically beginning with the Book of Acts.  As a problem was discovered it was listed along with its scripture reference. The list was then arranged in tabular form to give an overview of major problems.  Second, the problems dealt with by each church were divided into chapters by the different churches.  Third, each problem was dealt with in order to learn the symptom(s), source(s), and solution as noted in scripture.  Homiletical aids were suggested for each problem in order to facilitate their use in preaching, teaching or counseling.  A valuable discovery was to note the symptoms and biblical solutions which can still be useful to local churches today.  It was also found that the local churches of today face most if not all of the same types of problems.
