It is transitioning out of the pandemic, wrestling with its apologetic and ministry response to a post-Christendom America amid a gentrifying community and in the nascent stages of pastoral change. Despite having existed since 1932 with a membership of 10,000 people, it is a Baby Boomer church looking to sustain and scale its reach. The church is a gospel-centered, grace-grounded ἐκκλησία with a legacy of evangelism and community advocacy. To continue its legacy, however, it must adjust its approach to discipleship by embracing a missional communities’ strategy that facilitates biblical literacy, relationship building, volunteerism, and gospel proclamation. These four elements of the missional communities’ model are derived from the practices of the Jerusalem church in Acts 2:42–47. Though not prescriptive, they offer a biblical framework for building the church’s communal life. The missional communities’ model is a repurposing of what worked when the church found itself on the margins of Judea’s religious and social life; the church grew stronger in the Scriptures, in κοινωνία, in mighty deeds, and in winning souls. This study offers promising data that focusing on these four areas of discipleship can lead to similar results as the early church. Those who participate improve their ability to understand and explain Scripture, develop genuine relationships with their fellow parishioners, volunteer at church and in their communities, and increase their confidence and ability to share their faith. Quantitative questionnaires, qualitative interviews, field observations, and researcher-generated documents validate the research. This triangulation of the data provides dependability to the researcher's findings and conclusions. The Apostolic Church of God has tested and proven the potential of the missional communities’ strategy. It is now positioned to duplicate this framework in its internal ministries and the zip codes where its members live."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default A three-phase process was required to train the small group. The first phase involved allowing a few young adults to discuss the implication of an assigned Bible passage through the inductive Bible study method. The second phase involved training them to preach; the third phase allowed them to preach. For this portfolio, only the first phase was examined. The participants’ involvement included choosing four Bible passages to develop into four sermons. This portfolio has V chapters. Chapter I is the introduction, which gives a general overview of the portfolio while chapter II focuses on the researcher’s personal journey and ministry context. Chapter III is about the author’s philosophy of leadership, which governed and guided his ministry practice; chapter IV examines the field research; and chapter V is the conclusion and implication. The data collection methods used for this research were reflective journaling, participant observation and a survey. While there were things that could have been done differently in the research for a more effective outcome, the project’s conclusion revealed that the young adults’ confidence was increased through their contributions in the group collaboration."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133756839428096,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:24:21.145Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:22:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8f6264ce-7284-4112-b8e4-2ee80f5871f4","accessControl_ssim":["26dded38-49f4-4851-9ff4-86806422176d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a Method for Growing in Intimacy with the Triune God Through Knowing, Being and Doing."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:19:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ef0ea22e-caac-45b0-9014-c1d3c5dd1a50"],"hasLease_ssim":["5a68e1c4-bd6c-4149-bf5d-dec61bd7443f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Spiritual Formation"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Narry Santos Dr. Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"location_tesim":["Canada"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The second part is a spiritual formation model exploring how we grow in maturity in Christ: we discover our true identity in relation to Christ (know), as we abide in Christ (be) by intentionally practicing spiritual disciplines, and over time, we bear the fruit of the Spirit in Christ (do). The third part is a research project that reproduces the knowing-being-doing model in the context of a spiritual direction relationship, where the participants are led to use their imagination in prayer. For many, the commitment to study the ancient text persists in being an elusive pursuit. The hinderance can be described as biblical nescience. Although numerous Christians adhere to religious doctrine, church ordinances, and corporate engagements such as regular Sunday worship, Christian instruction, communion, Bible study, prayer, ministry service, and giving, largely excluded from the framework of faith is Bible reading. Some Christians acknowledge the major obstacle to be a lack of understanding of the storyline. Another challenge for readers is finding relevancy in the text, while others hold to the notion that comprehensive Bible reading and study are the sole responsibility of the pastor and church leaders to guide Christians beyond these complexities and aid future believers to embrace the Living Word. This writing seeks to reenergize and rekindle the importance of reading and having a deeper understanding of the Good News through the use of a biblical plot-line that places emphasis on God’s mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129527981703168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:17:08.193Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:59:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:05:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"96eed949-906d-4695-a030-cc28ed49d30d","accessControl_ssim":["de01ac3e-1001-46ea-8c38-007b4661f480"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Adrianic Application Charting System: Navigating the Applicational Methods of Adrian Rogers as a Tool Set for Expository Preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:59:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:32:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1c7969b2-2446-4e3e-9a56-09aebe08ddc4"],"hasLease_ssim":["06dfec0c-4f96-4983-960f-a878f53dc04b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Ministry","Expositional Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Matthew McKellar Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Tennessee","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Cameron Lee Williams"],"keyword_tesim":["Theory","Sermon preparation"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Study--Methodology","Expository preaching","Bible--Use","Bible--Homiletic use","Preaching--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Adrianic Application Charting System: Navigating the Applicational Methods of Adrian Rogers as a Tool Set (Toolset) for Expository Preaching. This project demonstrates the presence of a discernible applicational method in Adrian Rogers’ sermons and proposes axiomatic principles that may be extracted from the pattern of techniques he employs to achieve such a method. Further, axioms derived of the research are organized to establish a system of tools that may be employed to equip an expositor to increase the quantity and quality of applicational content, improving communication of application in weekly sermons. The system, envisioned to encompass the techniques Rogers employs to navigate application, relies on analogous tools germane to early Adriatic sailing practices.Chapters 1-2 establish the premises on which the writer based his project. Chapters 3-8 research Rogers’ four techniques and develop his principles into Adrianic axioms for tooling. Chapters 9-10 express motivating insights, both practical and theological, behind the goals of the project. Chapters 11-14 test the expectations of the project in light of successes, examining the Adrianic tool set for weaknesses that might be bolstered for continued improvement of the system.Appendices 1-2 graph the research and parameters of datasets. Appendix 3 depicts iconographic materials representing the tool set (toolset) to better illustrate the Adrianic system. The author asserts that properly interpreting the Scriptures as well as properly interpreting oneself in light of the Scriptures is paramount for life change. The study especially focused on cultivating this habit among Millennials.Method: After submitting a questionnaire to the congregation at large and facilitating pre-seminar interviews with a volunteer group of Millennials from the congregation, the author implemented a six-session seminar designed to cultivate “hermeneutical meditation” among the Millennials who volunteered. Post-seminar interviews were then facilitated in order to discern the results of the effort. Conclusion:The seminar could be improved, but after the implementation and interviews, it is clear that fostering hermeneutical meditation through a seminar format was effective for helping Christians (especially in this case, Millennials) grow in life transformation through their habitual interaction with Scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718491285094400,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:35:01.899Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:30:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:14:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9b607edc-a6cc-404a-93d5-04b81265585a","accessControl_ssim":["e9929069-23f7-4036-a131-d1bdbb91108e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Identifying Common Challenges Facing Leaders In The Second Generation Of Large Churches To Fortify Hope Community Church Downtown (Minneapolis)"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:30:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:40:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b1027154-559f-4191-ad0b-5d1c0b928384"],"hasLease_ssim":["39da9b6a-9242-452c-86ee-b5c89dfc633f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen Treichler D.Min.","Jonathan Kim Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This was the reality of Hope Community ChurchDowntown (HCC DT) in Minneapolis, MN at the time of this paper’s formation. Specific areasof challenge which have been explored include growth from small to large and transitions inleadership between generation and senior leaders. The fortification of the church depends onbuilding an accurate list of common challenges that can be later addressed by church staff andleadership. The process utilized to accomplish that purpose included robust biblical and literatureresearch followed by interviews with seven pastors serving in churches similar to HCC DT. Theinitial research led to a preliminary list of challenges which were then utilized in interviews todetermine their relative validity within the lived experiences of pastors. Analysis of the researchand field work revealed five significant findings churches must address for the sake of long-termendurance: (1) Answer the question, “Who are we today?”, (2) Address unavoidable realities, (3)Foster the following, (4) Protect against these, and (5) Achieve success in pastoral succession. Each of these is explained and illustrated with real-life examples from within local churches.Upon completion of this project, a list of common challenges was presented to the eldersand staff of HCC DT. It was then their responsibility to read, discuss, pray, and respond to thechallenges addressed herein."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720979731054592,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:14:35.067Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":44,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
