The concept and method of ministry the people in the local church employ when they deal with issues of justice and liberation determine that ministry's effectiveness to a significant degree.  This project uses an exploratory method wherein a group examines the issue of justice in the book of Amos and analyzes the local church's administrative procedures. It uses recent scholarship which claims that Israel came into existence in the Highlands around 1250 BCE as a federation of heterogenous groups of marginalized people.  The author reconstructs both the person and the book of Amos by relying on works by Gottwald, Hopkins and Coote.  This sociological approach provides the preacher with new insights into the Biblical tradition and illuminates numerous connections of consequence for today's society.
