Significant gaps exist between, on the one hand, the emphasis placed on developing leadership qualities and skills during Capuchin friars’ formation and, on the other, the degree to which such skills are called for in educational administrative ministries. In support of these claims, I apply Richard Osmer’s method of descriptive-empirical analysis – examining experience, tradition, and pastoral response – to a case study involving the experience of Capuchin principals in Ethiopia. Based on a close examination of their experiences, I recommend the institutionalization of programmatic educational leadership training modules for friar school principals. I also call for changes in the friars’ initial and ongoing formation programs to increase the quality of educational leadership and managerial skills in order to raise their leadership qualities and make them more capable of executing their responsibilities. The country exists deeply rooted in religious tension and ethnic conflict. In these unstable times, some of the religious leaders and politicians are barriers to democratic transition and peaceful coexistence. In response, this thesis explores a prophetic witness of social justice in the light of the Praxis Model, a theological method of Professor Stephen B. Bevans. First, the conditions of social-religious-political injustices are examined to explain what led the country into chaos, corruption, and civil war. Then, this thesis proposes using effective, practical methods for moral and social transformation. Rather than promoting interreligious dialogue focused on doctrines that have divided people, this thesis recommends uniting people through involvement in social service activities that create common understanding and mutuality. The New Testament Epistles offer a unique model of discipleship for the church as well as content for discipleship training.  A study of the evolution of discipleship from the Gospels to the context of the church supports this hypothesis.  The project develops a paradigm from the Epistles, which it then implements and evaluates for its effectiveness.
