Timothy II"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Ministry Research Project aims to demonstrate a system for pastoral succession for congregationally governed Baptist Churches with by-laws requiring a pastor search committee system. Pastoral succession is a viable mechanism for pastoral selection in Baptist polity when certain factors are met, including predecessor’s tenure, successor’s qualifications and calling, and congregational understanding and support. Chapter 1 explains the opportunity for pastoral succession to create healthier churches and outlines the context, rationale, goals, and methodology used for this specific project. Chapter 2 examines biblical examples and exhortations from Scripture about succession of spiritual leaders in the Old and New Testaments (Moses/Joshua, Elijah/Elisha, Paul/Pastors, Jesus/Apostles). Chapter 3 argues for the advantages of pastoral succession through historical examples (St. Augustine, Gregory of Nazianzus, Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Fuller), and explores practical advantages supported by biblical leadership theory. Chapter 4 describes the planning, implementation, and results of a pastoral succession at University Baptist Church Fairbanks, AK. Chapter 5 evaluates the effectiveness of pastoral succession through set goals, defines theological principles supporting succession, and highlights best practices and common mistakes. Strong and Courageous is a ministry developed for implementation through the local church to encourage, equip, and empower single mothers. This ministry project focuses on the importance of and need for a Bible-based single moms’ ministry within the local church. It provides research to back up the need for a single moms’ ministry, as well as a ministry model for churches to utilize. Last, the ministry project provides instructions about how to start a single moms’ ministry within local congregations. Research for this project has produced alarming, eye-opening information crucial to the development of this ministry. Chapter 1 covers the need for a single moms’ ministry within the local church by offering statistics as to the increase of single mothers within the United States and the percentage of those who are unchurched.Chapter 2 covers the introduction and explanation of Strong and Courageous Ministry, explaining its purpose and what it offers. Chapter 2 unfolds the Strong and Courageous Ministry model as well as its outreaches. Last, it presents an example of one of the outreach models, a seven-week Bible study curriculum. Chapter 3 documents the implementation as well as the assessment of the single moms’ ministry that was executed through First Baptist Dallas during the Fall of 2019. Chapter 3 provides step-by-step instructions for beginning a single moms’ ministry within a local church setting. This research has proven the need and importance for a Bible-based single moms’ ministry within the local church setting. The project has provided not only evidence of the need, but also a model of how best to meet the need and to implement the ministry within the local church. Last, chapter 3 introduces additional outreach information from the Strong and Courageous Ministry, including an online presence to provide additional equipping and encouragement for single mothers and for church leaders who desire to implement a single moms’ ministry in their own churches. The study utilized a basic qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with six Gospel-centered preachers. Four research questions guided the data analysis, addressing challenges presented by culture and theology and what methods preachers use to overcome these challenges. The findings of the study show that Old Testament war narratives are essential components of the meta-narrative of Scripture, culminating in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
