How had such served the Church?  A Lay Diaconate has been trained and utilized in congregations of Southern Arizona for nearly three decades.  Its officeholders were locally trained, primarily by Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod pastors.  This project’s purpose, therefore, was to study that which was in place and to develop exportable teaching resources. Timothy I","Witness bearing (Christianity)--Biblical teaching","First Presbyterian Church (Bonita Springs, Fla)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is a ruling elder leadership training program for use at First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs. In addition to the training for church eldership, it includes training for sharing the faith community's perspective in the public square. This project seeks to answer the question, 'If the church is going to participate in public dialogue in the public square, who do we send?' It is the author's view that those who the Apostle Paul describes in I Timothy 3:1-7 are the people most suited for this work. In our increasingly secular age, people of faith must be encouraged that they not only have a Biblical mandate to express their witness in the public square as Jesus calls them to be 'salt and light' in the world, but that there is also plenty of precedent in American history.
