When I first arrived, the church was closed and set to be demolished.  By inspiring the remaining congregation, and empowering them using the principles espoused by the Second Vatican Council of reversing the hierarchy of the clergy and by following Jackson W. Carroll's model of how to exercise authority, they performed outreach in the surrounding community, extending an invitation to non-affiliated Catholics to attend Saint Peter's, and by listening to the spiritual needs of the people. The result was the expansion of the church to the point that it was possible to reopen the church building. Roman Catholic priests and parishioners participated in this case study. The researcher provided a one-day workshop on Lectio Divina and preaching preparation for the priests. He utilized focus groups for gathering qualitative data from both priests and parishioners. An integral part of this effort was a discussion of the development of the theology behind this response and the evolution of modern theology in response to the social and political situation in Guatemala.  The author contends that the Catholic Church underwent a substantive change in the last forty years in how it responded in Guatemala. Increasingly, bishops have assigned priest as pastors to multiple parishes. This project studied the current shift in pastoral care given and pastoral care received that affects the ministers and their faith communities. The project engaged these pastors from the Diocese of Madison in a reflective consultation process on the phenomenon of pastoring multiple parishes using theological reflection. This dual model, which sees human nature as fixed with biologically assigned roles for men and women, is contrasted to additional models, most notably a multi-polar anthropology which sees human nature as informed by culture. The interview material is presented by major themes and contexts in which the Catholic secondary educators situate their
