The project analyzes what it means for FSPAs to be human and spiritual according to six critical concepts of Karl Rahner's theological anthropology, developing criteria to identify the real FSPA founder and founding charism. Japanese view Christianity as a foreign, disjunctive religion.  Just as Japan historically syncretized Buddhism and Confucianism, Japanese experience a cultural conversion to Roman Catholicism that inculturates Japanese religiosity into a specifically Japanese Catholicism.  Overcoming difficulties of syncretizing, or bringing together a new tradition and a distinctly Japanese culture of religiosity, becomes paramount if a Japanese Christian Church is to thrive. The theoretical framework includes an examination of inculturation, an overview of contemporary catechesis, a contemporary understanding of the Romanian Church, and the socialization model. The final document examines each element of the four major phases of the Catholic initiatory process by considering academic-year scheduling constraints and its effects on students, and by describing needs of student-aged persons seeking membership in the Catholic Church, and provides a flexible methodology for implementing the first phase, the period of inquiry, in a university setting. The thesis draws on the conviction that remembering will play a significant part in the grief process and will make it possible to hope.  If such is the case, then our funeral rituals must provide environments of care in which remembering within the context of the Christian story might take place. The conclusion reached is that an imaginative use of the Order of Christian Funerals does indeed offer scope for remembering. To make the rite meaningful and relevant to the culture of the Hmong the writer used the process of inculturation.  Research on the meaning and method of inculturation helped the writer to discover how to apply it in the case of the Hmong people.  The writer also researched Hmong history through extensive reading, personal interviews of Hmong leaders at Holy Family Parish and participation in their religious and social activities.
