The preacher's interest in ethos enables the preacher to prepare the homily through the eyes and ears of the assembly. In addition, storytelling can encourage the assembly to listen to God's Word in their lives because life is easily understood in a narrative mode. This thesis offers resources for preparation and ongoing formation in the preaching life. The author reviews the literature on difficult scripture texts and proposes interpretive methods for depth analysis. She explores how reflective practices support interpretation by bringing together theological reflection with the adult pedagogical theory known as Transformative Learning to focus on the preacher's frame of reference. She proposes a model of reflection in sermon preparation and investigates its effectiveness in a collaborative study. Having few role models, these women may not fully claim their identity as preachers. How can Catholic women who preach be empowered to claim their identity and authority as preachers?  This study demonstrates how by both naming the obstacles presented by their tradition and uncovering potential sources of liberation and empowerment, Catholic women who preach may find encouragement to claim their identity and authority as preachers. Its research developed a definition for prophetic preaching by exploring the writings of the biblical prophets. It also studied the psychological, ecclesial, and cultural factors that encourage or discourage such preaching for today's priest. Through surveys and focus group sessions, the experience of today's Church with prophetic preaching was explored. This project identifies the theology and frequency of diaconate preaching and explains the importance of deacons to be able to effectively communicate God's message. The following work provides a five week seminar that has been taught to a group of deacons from the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York. The seminar helped the participants to recognize, understand and apply specific skills in which to enhance their preaching. Employing a comparative literary approach, it compares and contrasts the structures and themes in selected Lukan parables with comparable sermonic material preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
