It gives a working definition of healthy spirituality.  Four case studies address the significance of individual values, guilt, anger, and grief as they relate to anxiety and pain.  The theological rationale for the project is based on Paul Tillich's threefold description of existential anxiety. The study indicates that chronic pain is more often the result of life history than medical history. This project provides an overview of hospital chaplaincy and studies its pastoral care role.  It examines specifics of varying hospital organizations, the chaplain's work and qualifications and the diversity of patients and illnesses encountered.  It considers the training and pastoral role of clergy and laity in various facets of hospital ministry.  The project concludes that effective hospital chaplaincy service is an essential Christian ministry.
