It provides a reflective look at both the government's and religion's role in this process. It helps bring clarity to Native religion/spirituality and Christian understanding of manifest destiny. It gives an overview of the social dynamics at work to dislodge Natives from their home, their land while describing this history in the Trail of Tears. The project explored the need for such training and the reasons for the high rate of alcoholism and the growing number of suicides.  It discovered that the Cherokee pastor is the key to helping his people.  The author examined the biblical background for crisis counseling with alcoholic and suicidal persons and laid a theoretical foundation to equip pastors to minister to such persons.  The major emphasis of the project was the procedures used in selecting and training a core group of pastors in strategic areas of the Cherokee Nation.  The team concentrated on three major areas of concern in their preparation for enlarged Christian ministry.
