Conversations with the children’s ministry team, parents, child participants, and the senior pastor of Victory indicated that changes needed to be implemented in order to grow the ministry. This project used a case study methodology, focusing on a church with similar demographics as Victory, to discover the underlying factors needed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Victory’s children’s ministry. To test the working theory that an increase in resources, team leadership, and parental involvement leads to increased effectiveness and efficiency, surveys were sent to three children’s ministry leaders from the case study church. Interviews were then conducted to follow up on survey responses. The resulting quantitative and qualitative data was analyzed using the Qualtrics platform. The findings suggest that there are five components needed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the children’s ministry at Victory Church: a vision/philosophy of children’s ministry based on the great commission; adequate resources/funding for the children’s ministry; key staff leadership; parental involvement; and strategic planning and the development of organizational systems."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://spark.bethel.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1503\u0026context=etd"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128610477703168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:02:33.193Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:29:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:08:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"adb0801a-51ef-4418-b983-9f8a42ba220c","accessControl_ssim":["8623e05f-fc88-4722-bdd0-1ed9c86923f3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping Parents To Teach Apologetics To Their Elementary-Age Children At Broadmoor Baptist Church In Shreveport, Louisiana"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:29:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:09:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4973d705-1f0d-4595-af31-bc8031e0a8af"],"hasLease_ssim":["dd81ce60-0108-4c6d-a579-e394f71f3178"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Travis Dickinson Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jarred Pellegrin"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Parent and child--Religious aspects","Children--Religious life","Church work with children","Christian life","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,” 1 Timothy 4:1. This is a clear warning that the enemy is working to deceive and cause people in the church to fall away. What if the church could better equip the laity to address the areas often used for the deceptive purposes talked about in this verse? This dissertation addresses the issue of people walking away from the church, particularly people who have grown up in the church and walked away after high school. I argue that in order to keep these individuals from walking away from their faith, they need to be equipped to better understand and rationally defend that faith through apologetic training. While other projects have had a similar goal and targeted teens, this project is targeted at parents with a goal of equipping them with the tools necessary to teach core apologetic concepts to their early elementary age students. This dissertation seeks to lay a foundation on which to build an apologetic and instill a Christocentric world view into students at the earliest possible age. Then the desire is for the parents to partner with the church to build a strong structure of apologetics and understanding well before they would be tempted to walk away from their faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132748928253952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:08:19.927Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:27:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:30:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5a240156-0623-4c54-b41d-5d09af40a64f","accessControl_ssim":["562c5b5d-8fa9-4f70-be15-583580bc0ec8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Dynamics of Spiritual Formation: Selected Case Studies on Christian Marital Health and its Contribution to Child Spiritual Formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:27:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:46:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3b9e5b99-5695-428b-9c73-db7e00a3c37e"],"hasLease_ssim":["8991ffae-2d74-478c-9378-39609e89f5fd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Educational Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jerry Lawrence D.Min.","Paul E. Psychologist Albert Bandura would echo the same sentiment based upon his Bobo Doll experimentation. According to Bandura, people learn through observation, imitation, and modeling. The problem is more about what is not happening in the Christian home than what is happening in the Churches. Thus, the need to investigate the dynamic characteristics of healthy Christian marriages and the influence they have on the spiritual formation in children is a worthy study. This research will not examine the cause and effect of unhealthy marital relationships, but rather focus attention on healthy examples to extrapolate data promoting spiritual formation. The Christian husband and wife relationship plays a significant role in the spiritual formation in children. Children growing up in a family where parents consistently modeled a healthy Christian marriage are more likely to embrace a similar biblical worldview as their parents. Children who grew up in a home where a healthy Christian marriage exist will most likely take ownership of their own faith and spiritual growth as adults. Christian individuals who have parents who demonstrate healthy Christian marriages will be the participants in this study. The individuals interviewed will vary in how they perceive the influence of their parent’s marital relationship in their spiritual growth. The individuals interviewed will identify similarities between their view of life and their parents shared views. The individuals interviewed will exhibit an ongoing desire to maintain an intimate relationship with God and their spouse."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130358076407808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:30:19.833Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:18:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eeee1d2a-ce8d-46b7-ac6b-fd01efc99425","accessControl_ssim":["03cb8731-52ee-4b76-8a06-80ffced818eb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing And Evaluating A Biblical Parenting Resource In Media Ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:18:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:57:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a45521e8-7ddf-49d3-a92e-dbd90482d718"],"hasLease_ssim":["8f7bab74-ed74-455a-98d4-dbaea10f5990"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert Keeley Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Steven Roy Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This study articulated a theoretical foundation of a biblical theology and review of pastoral practices on children and parenting, published a resource on biblical parenting for distribution through the Internet, and then asked the audience for feedback. The resource was rooted in a study of how the Bible regards both children and the task of parenting. The study also explored models of faith formation, pastoral parenting best practices, and a review of the religious landscape of contemporary youth. A 93-page electronic booklet (PDF) called “A Handbook of Biblical Parenting” was developed and shared with over a thousand people online, who were then invited via email to complete an online questionnaire. The response rate was less than 2%, yet the audience was demographically in line with the expected audience. Most respondents were actively parenting young children, expressed an improvement in their parenting confidence, and found the resource practical, using its ideas several times. Most considered faith important to their parenting and found the resource to be encouraging, biblical, and educational. Most consumed the PDF deeply, even though most used a handheld mobile device. A repeated use of this prototype process would require a greater response rate to be consistently useful. Formatting for a small screen would be wise. The questions would require adaptation for other topics. The short answer? There are many factors that contribute, but our family background is one of the largest contributions. Just as Proverbs 22:6 is true: “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it,” the opposite would be true as well: Do not train up a child, and they will depart from “it”. What is “it”? “It” equals habits of godliness, wisdom, truth, fear of the Lord, and sanctification that comes from the training received from godly parents which extends to the next generation. Our mission to train up a child would be in jeopardy of the mandate that Solomon sets forth, if we did not train up a parent in the way they should go.Training is at the heart of this research project. Because there are many individuals who are about to be parents that do not pursue biblical parenting education training before they become parents, a conscious effort to strive to bridge our past with the present and create a bright future for our children, our family, and the generations that follow is integral to the success of parenting. If the concern for strong biblical parenting education is important, believers should be as adamant in pursuing this preparation as much as they are in beginning a biblical marriage with the right steps. Biblical marriages usually begin by the couple taking the time to pursue every avenue of preparation and advice that there is available. But that does not seem to be the case for the role of parenting. There appears to be a large deficit of understanding in the value of pursuing every avenue of preparation and advice available for this vital beginning of parenting. For some reason, the need is not there. It is quite puzzling and disheartening to know that this deficit exists when there is deep importance to this job.The research examined uses a hermeneutical phenomenological approach in the form of personal and group interviews, conversations with student parents of my elementary and secondary classes, and a university essay question from my university students. It was the goal of this project to create a plan of action that can be implemented to begin the journey of parenting with our aim fully on the target moving from working through one’s family background, to the success and the health of our marriage, to the implementation of a strong family unit.
