The project involved a five week study on nuclear war, out of which a proposal was presented to the general board of the congregation that Rush Creek Christian Church become a 'shalom congregation'. This is a national program of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) which involves a congregation committing one year of making the issue of peace the center of their worship, study, and action.  The motion to become a 'shalom congregation' failed. The project sought, through introducing them to persons from various hospital disciplines, to provide the holistic approach to caring for the sick and dying patient. Participants were given an opportunity to visit patient wards and to reflect upon their experience through the peer group process.  Participants were to read three books during the three months. This study assesses personal and professional needs of ministers in the Christian Church and critically examines and analyzes existing clergy support systems at local, regional and denominational levels. Methodology includes research of literature in the field, survey of methods of other denominations in assessing clergy needs; research and reflection upon clergy support systems within the Christian Church (Disciples).  From a dozen clergy support systems within the church, the author determined that the three most effective are: peer/colleague support groups, local congregations' pastoral relations committees, and the church's pension fund. Pastors in six Protestant denominations responded to questionnaires. Children from four Protestant denominations were surveyed. The data is described and analyzed.  Children in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) seem to have less membership identity than children in the Lutheran and Episcopal churches. Based on the concepts that ministry is for reconciliation, and listening is a vital ministry, the project sought to train lay church members in the art of creative listening.  These trained listeners then called on other church members--especially the disaffected--in an attempt to achieve reconciliation.
