Training materials were prepared, tested in class situations, and critiqued by people with expertise in the areas stated in the thesis.  The study has shown that acceptability by the targeted audience and adequate educational quality are key factors for successful publication of materials. The interview technique was adapted from a study done by William Perry and based on the faith development models of John Westerhoff and James Fowler. Those who were active in the church's youth program displayed a number of characteristics including: supportive parents, some type of emotional 'faith experience,' and a significant relationship with another adult for whom faith was important and meaningful.  Those interactions are more significant in some ways than the curriculum or program used. Against this backdrop, this study focused on incorporating youth in the life and mission of the St Thomas Assembly of God.  To facilitate this, adults and adolescents were called upon to recognize their weaknesses and seek for harmony.  Adults must be engaged in mission for, by, and with youth and never fail to recognize them as a part of the people of God. This dissertation/project assists in meeting this need by producing a set of presuppositions for Christian initiation composed of theological assumptions, goals and guidelines for use in designing a programme of education for Christian initiation for youth and adults within the United Church of Canada.  The first obvious question, 'do any other denominations have good programmes available?' led to a study of some samples of selected mainline Canadian and American churches. A biblical and theological-ethical foundation lends support to a style of 'friendship' administration developed for this project.  The program development committee authored software which was used in two Sunday school classes successfully. The project includes a critique of intergenerational education from theological and educational perspectives. Findings conclude that this education is a valid approach for the church. The project became a reality in 1981.  It was designed to fulfill two goals: 1. to articulate my theological understanding of the relationship between the church's educational ministry and its pastoral ministry of faith development; 2. to develop a three year program of adult education rooted in that theological understanding. The method of study included: classes, readings, Christian education committee work and the parish life and ministry development process. The purpose of this study is to discover if the curriculum can be effective in the black Baptist church as presently designed. The thesis of this paper is the importance of Christian education in the church, most specifically the black Baptist church.  The method of doing this study is through personal interviews of directors, teachers, pastors and students who are affiliated with the center using the above listed curriculum.
