The program included recruiting and selecting trainees, curriculum development, teaching the program and evaluating the results.  Ten lessons in theory were alternated with practical assignments in children's classrooms under the supervision of a fully trained teacher. Each trainee selected a preferred age group.  The theoretical training included material appropriate to teaching children ages two years through sixth grade.  An integral six week component focused on the personal spiritual growth of the teacher.  The program was evaluated by twelve trainees at the end of the first semester of teaching. The author researched the history of the churches in the area and studied the reasons for the weak pedagogical skills.  He wrote curriculum which was designed to improve the quality of religious education. The project reviewed the biblical background for sound teaching and used the information as a guide for the enhancement of teaching skills. Further research revealed that theoretical problems would be alleviated by a better equipped teaching force.  A study group was assembled from the area churches and trained with improved skills. The project emphasized the selection and training of the study group. The group concentrated on the improvement of their technical skills of communication, conceptual skills of organization, and human skills for the preparation of an adequate teaching plan. The project sought to bridge the gulf between worship and social justice groups which exists in an average parish and to bring these groups into creative relationship.  The project had four goals: 1) to develop an adult education curriculum; 2) to utilize the curriculum in three diverse parish settings (urban, rural and campus ministry); 3) to assess the curriculum; and 4) to provide information for a revision of the curriculum. The methodology derived directly from the goals.  The principal curriculum resource was a study book, The Noise of Solemn Assemblies: a Primer on Liturgy and Social Justice.  It was taught within three diverse settings and evaluated using a number of instruments and criteria. The purpose of using these narratives was to tear down stereotypes of the Jewish people by allowing Christians to enter and explore the life experiences of Jews.  A standard library research method established the theoretical support for this approach.  The study included a group experiment which involved seven Christians from varied social backgrounds. Group testing was conducted at the beginning and end of the experiment using the A-S Scale found in The Authoritarian Personality by Adorno et al (1950).  The group read five works of Jewish literature.  Each member kept a reading log of personal responses to the literature and participated in group discussions.  The results showed little change for the group as a whole. Individually, there were changes of both increased anti-Semitism and decreased anti-Semitism. The reading logs revealed that the participants struggled over their thoughts about the Jews. A study of the nature of prayer reveals that its primary intent is communion with God, not the registering of requests.  The task of this project was to lead the members of the Piedmont Park Church to develop stronger habits of personal prayer by deepening their understanding of its importance, potential and meaning.  A prayer curriculum was applied during a six month period.  Its seven parts included: sermons, meditations, prayer partners, mid-week services, week of prayer, video presentation and systematic pastoral prayer.  Both the Piedmont congregation and a comparison group (who did not receive the curriculum) were surveyed before and after the curriculum to monitor any change within each group. While the Piedmont group indicated an increase in understanding the importance, potential and meaning of prayer, it indicated decline in actual practice.  Conversely, the comparison group indicated a decline in understanding and an increase in practice. The author's inventory is administered to 141 persons in three Lutheran congregations.
