The resurrection is the foundational doctrine of our faith, and yet many pastors struggle with imparting his or her belief. A pastor's beliefs surrounding the resurrection may be at odds with the primary belief systems of the people in the pews. Or perhaps a pastor does not know what he or she believes. A vacuum is formed that gets filled with popular theology from books promoting a dispensational worldview, television or movies. Sermons often promote the notion of heaven without confronting what we really mean when we say, 'I believe in the resurrection of the body.'The study presents the point of view that our understanding of resurrection can be opened up through attending to the gap between belief and practice. In other words, what does it mean in our lives today when we say we are a people of the resurrection? Can we think of ourselves as rehearsing resurrection right now? Toward that end a curriculum was developed for an adult study on resurrection, based on the shared praxis model of Thomas Groome.The curriculum was found to be a tiny, first step in a re-shaping of the way a congregation apprehends the resurrection. The author believes that the term 'revival' has been misunderstood in view of the biblical meaning and needs to be redefined for the modern church. We can be renewed by focusing on the fact that God has sent us a Savior and being Christ's body here on earth. Churches can turn this concept into an action plan for their congregation by instituting a program that honors Christ's methods of discipling and the activities of the historical revivalists, appealing to the whole person: head, heart, and hands. John Wesley's class meeting system was successful because it focused on these elements. The Navigators are a modern-day example. Creating sermon-based small groups to reinforce sermons enhances biblical discipleship and produces life change. Such groups help people grow spiritually in a complex world that communicates many ideas. Chapter one raises the possibility that resurfacing the sermon's main idea and desired application in a discussion group can extend the purpose of the sermon. Chapter two provides a theological foundation for the role of the pastor as preacher and the use of small groups. Chapter three provides analysis from ten churches interviewed to discover reasons why sermon-based small groups work, providing a best practices list, specific challenges and how to overcome them, and principles for writing curriculum. The study design consisted of an independent assessment of observed leadership behaviors before and after implementation of the training program. Ten lay leaders from Mebane Presbyterian Church in Mebane, North Carolina were evaluated by peers and followers using the Mind Garden online multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ 5X). The study participants underwent an intervention using biblical materials and action steps from Bass and Avolio's Leader's Notebook. The project focus was to develop a collaborative model on how to educate the community on the illnesses and symptoms associated with homelessness when internal church conflicts erupt. The mixed methodology was used to obtain the results through pre-test, post-test, questionnaires, personal interviews, and a focus group. The findings suggested that most participants did respond to being educated on the illnesses associated with homelessness. The Robert K. Greenleaf Center's emphasis, 'Servant leader's ten characteristics,' was made in to the Bible study teaching material, 'Do as I have done for you.'  The teaching material was aimed at the participants who wanted to attend the Ames Korean United Methodist Church small group leadership class.  'A Bible study for servant leadership as lay leadership training program' was successfully executed.  In order to measure the effect on the lay leader training program, the first program of participants completed an assessment of the program.  In order to measure the awareness of changes as a servant leader, the second program of participants completed another assessment.
