Experimental and descriptive research methodologies were used with control and experimental groups.  A questionnaire determined spiritual disciplines that needed improvement, and a training manual was developed based upon the results. The experimental group received seven weeks of discipleship training from the project director.  This group then trained others one-on-one using the same material. While previous generations took religious affiliation for granted, the postwar generation shows significant differences with the preceding generations.  This fact became obvious when the postwar generation involvement with the church declined during their adolescence and early adulthood.  For this and other reasons, the postwar generation poses unique problems which an orientation must address. The project accomplished this by developing and conducting a fourth-grade level literacy training course on family values and beliefs.  Following an introductory chapter, Chapter 2 presents a biblical mandate, an historical precedent and a theological rationale for the project.  Chapter 3 discusses family life in eastern Kentucky over the past 250 years.  Chapter 4 discusses the project's literacy training program.
