The author studied developmental theorists and James Fowler's stages of faith.  She then developed a chart that correlated the accepted stages of physical, cognitive, and emotional development with Fowler's stages of faith. Twenty-six sessions of preaching and classroom instructions enabled the children to develop the foundation of spiritual competency and practical skill level development to be utilized in society. The results of the model were implemented with a qualitative analysis method. The criteria for the selection was based on their suitability for teaching community values and relationships to young children.  The key moral values taught were love, kindness, caring, friendship, and sharing.  The five biblical stories were used as a center of interest when developing character and teaching values to the three to five-year-old preschoolers. Character education is easier to espouse in the abstract than to provide in the concrete.  So in writing the storytelling curriculum for character development, which I feel was successful, I tried to be as concrete as possible. The project director led a series of eight workshop sessions over a period of four months that had as its intention to equip the adult participants with the understanding of specific character qualities, and how to teach children to make these qualities a part of their lives. Using Groome's method of practical theology, 'Shared Christian Praxis,' the author conducted a case study in a Chicago parish, meeting with adults at a separate location while their children took part in the catechesis.
