Chapter 1 defines the context of this project.  Chapter 2 explores the authority and inspiration of the Bible and surveys the history of biblical exegesis.  Chapter 3 provides a model for doing exegesis and for understanding the literary genres found in the Bible.  Chapter 4 explains the methodology of the project and describes its implementation. Included in this thesis is a manual designed for an 8-week study which will prepare a teenager to preach a biblical, age-appropriate message.  The manual focuses on 3 elements: the teenager speaker, the message itself, and the teenage audience. The thesis's goal is that a youth pastor can take a group of leadership teenagers and challenge them to the high calling of preaching. It is a ten-session, twelve hour training course.  For this project the course was conducted using a retreat setting for half of the sessions and five consecutive Sunday evenings for the remaining sessions.  The primary target group is adult teachers currently serving in the project leader's church.  In addition, a select number of potential leaders were enlisted to participate. The project will address the following content areas: The purpose of Sunday School, the role of teaching in Sunday School, spiritual gifts in relationship to teaching, developmental stages of adults, learning and how learning occurs, levels of learning, how to study the Bible, lesson preparation steps, methods of teaching, lesson presentation skills, learning styles, and teaching for spiritual transformation. This course is designed to only address teaching needs and does not address organizational or outreach roles for the teacher.  A course text will be prepared by the project leader along with various teaching aids, worksheets, survey forms, visual aids, and evaluation forms.
