The project director developed eight Sunday school best practices from a survey for the '2012 Georgia's Fastest Growing Sunday Schools.'  The project director developed the survey results into a training curriculum and enlisted and trained a group of adult Sunday school leaders in a workshop held over four weeks. In this paper, the author addresses the question, 'How does reframing volunteer to disciple impact and revitalize the teaching ministry of the church?' The aim of this study is to show churches can use a mentoring model to help experienced teachers transfer practical knowledge to trainees and multiply available, trained teachers. A secondary aim is to show that the mentoring model matches biblical principles. This study, through an integrative review and critical analysis of literature, explores the biblical, theological foundations of teacher training, surveys the development of teacher training in the church, and based on the Bible and history presents a model for teacher apprenticeship. A training curriculum was developed through active research of a variety of teaching methods combined with consultation with a professional educator. Training involving the sharing of information combined with the demonstration of technique took place over a six-week period. First, the project director researched spiritual disciplines and effective methods used in teaching children. Second, he developed a course to train selected parents in these discipleship skills. Third, he implemented the course by training selected parents.  Participants attended five sessions on selected disciplines, and they took a pre-test and post-test to aid in evaluation. The project director implemented the project with selected adult leaders in the Sunday school at Mount Zion Baptist Church who desired to increase their understanding and skills in using the four components of emotional intelligence. Before the six-session workshop, participants completed the Emotional Intelligence Appraisal [registered symbol] as a pretest and post-test. Workshop sessions explored the present need for emotional intelligence in ministry; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management as they relate to ministry.
