The inhumane treatment of prisoners and their appalling living conditions are untenable and require justice.This project will explore the ways in which John Rawl's theory of justice may be used to construct a corrections ethic in the context of jail and prison culture for correctional facilities in the United States. It considers the varied and complex challenges faced while attempting the humane treatment of those incarcerated. The tradition of social contract theory espoused in the writings of such political philosophers as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and more recently amplified in the work of the late Harvard political philosopher John Rawls will be explored and interpreted. The project proposes a biblically-informed functional definition of sinful gossip. An appendix contains a written form of the ministry model-the complete manuscript of a practical theology book that both elaborates on the proposed definition and explains the biblical teaching on a popular level. The ministry model was analyzed by a group of twenty-one critical readers. The thesis was, God impacts and transforms Samaritan volunteers through face to face encounters with the migrant, 'Jesus.' The research included interviewing eight participants who gave 'testimonios' that documented evidence of transformation. The evidence parallels Mark's Gospel where Jesus called people to follow his 'Way' that ultimately transformed all areas of a person's life. The writing focuses on how Christians can maintain integrity in the workplace. The theoretical section identifies various business and social forces that work against maintaining one's integrity on the job and examines current research in the theology of work for its implications to laboring Christians. The project portion assesses and summarizes the theoretical factors and develops a structured Power Point course to teach theological, social, business and ethical considerations to working churchgoers.
