The dissertation analyzes the five passages of the New Testament on the subject, reflects on centuries of Catholic practice and tradition, states current church law, presents the damage of folklore about divorce and remarriage, and describes support groups. A renewed Christian humanism, which effectively responds to the criticisms of VC by providing an ethical theory of neighbor-centered love, is presented as the necessary linkeage for dealing with VC as a theological enterprise. Incorporation of insights from process metaphysics, moral/faith development studies and a continuing concern for Christian norms are discussed as appropriate and essential components in a values-centered theology. The author concluded that chemical dependence is multifactoral, thus the use of all tools, both human and divine, are necessary to constitute a comprehensive recovery program. Biblical considerations dictate a moral approach, at least in explaining the initial process of becoming an alcoholic. Medical evidence indicates strongly the accuracy of a disease model. The model was tested in a business ethics seminar which utilized case studies from the participants' business experiences.  The major case study of the seminar was Eli Lilly Company's attempts to operate ethically in South Africa. The major research component consisted of a survey of  management attitudes and values in the area served by  King-Bay Chaplaincy.  The findings of the survey and the survey process itself influenced the strategy and development of the chaplaincy. The entire ministry of the chaplaincy is experimental in nature, as it is not based on a traditional model of ministry.  The Project Report is an account of the evolution of the new ministry, based on a problem solving approach which utilizes the research data from the survey in its planning process. In order to critically examine this problem attention is first given to the issue of identity formation, the role it plays in the development of human beings and how unhealthy psychological and psychosocial development plays a major role in leading some young people to act out violent or otherwise anti-social behavior(s).  Posited here is that Erik Erikson provides a planned theory of behavior that sheds great light on the role of identity formation, prosocial behavior both as an individual and as an individual who is part of a reference group. Racial identity, racial socialization and racial salience must be considered in any approach designed to assist Black American youth relative to the issue of youth crime and violence.  Theological and ethical analyses are brought to bear on the problem being examined.  The position taken is that the problem of youth violence and crime is, perhaps, best addressed from within a religious/theological framework of meaning.  Moreover, that the Black Church and African-American moral tradition provides a model for developing ethical leaders.  Such a model can provide a useful framework for working with young people in order to reduce violence, criminal and other anti-social behaviors among them.  Walter Earl Fluker has done extensive research in the area of developing ethical leaders from the Black Church and African Americans moral tradition. This work is based on his exhaustive study of Howard Thurman and Martin Luther King, Jr.  The model is based on four concepts; agapeic love (the overarching concept), character, civility and community.  Based on these concepts a program model with these four foci as the foundational principles is described.  The program is designed to work with 8-14 year old inner-city, socio-economically deprived youth.  An evaluation of project outcomes follows. A survey of evangelical preaching discloses some troubling trends.  Propaganda, power, manipulation, and distortion devices are documented.  No doubt some of these are intentional, but some may be unintentional, yet nevertheless unethical.  A biblical model of persuasion is presented as an ethical code for the pulpit.  Emphasis lies upon examples found in NT preaching.
