This dissertation deals particularly with Wesley's emphasis on the dignity of man, the possibilities of grace, total stewardship, and God's perfect love expressed through man.  This doctrinal background was reflected in the social and political action which characterized John Wesley and the Wesleyan movement of the eighteenth century. The author researched Wesley's sermons, diary, letters and treatises, and read several textbooks on liberation theology, to discover similarities and contrasts. Every Christian is called to enter into the church for the purpose of serving Christ in the world.  But there is a gap between the calling and the fulfillment of the calling which can only be filled by intentional education for discipleship. Praxis education methodologies help fill this gap between calling and fulfillment.  Using a core committee, a praxis education experience was designed and implemented in an attempt to provide an alternative to teacher/curriculum centered education in the local church. Their changes were compared with pre- and post-test questionnaires to the changes demonstrated by a random sample group from the congregation.  The program included components of mutual selection and commitment, building of community, voluntarily chosen disciplines, a body of content, use of action and reflection, integration of body, mind and spirit; and the use of time. The Study Guide designed by the author for this project report was used in a group of eight persons.  The Study Guide was structured to assist the participants in a learning process towards growth.  It was a learning process that merged the cognitive (empirical knowledge of six selected Psalms) with the affective (the participant's feelings while responding to the emotional utterances of the psalmist).  It was a learning experience that proved to be different for most of the participants in that it was a spiritual growth experience.
