The project utilized a format that included a control group and an experimental group of fifteen people each.  Learning methods included ten weeks of group study, individual study assignments, and fellowship.  The ten topics covered in group study sessions were: assurance of salvation, the lordship of Christ, the need for spiritual growth, a daily quiet time, prayer, Bible study, the church, witnessing, God's will, and personal relationships. The intentional process included an invitation to and a decision to participate, workshops in skills, mentoring, and evaluation.  Skills, taught in 'Growth Sessions', gave practice through group and individual processes.  Support through mentoring and evaluation was very important in encouraging persons in their growth. Researching the history, polity, and membership statistics of the Christian Reformed Church in North America, the observation is made that certain ecclesiastical procedures hinder, rather than facilitate, each congregation's fulfillment of this mission. Theological critique establishes the case for taking a new approach in order to effectively make disciples of all nations.  A church growth consultation is conducted in a local Christian Reformed congregation, using, in small groups, materials based on the planning cycle.  Although modest results are realized, it is observed that even the best plans, methods, and strategies depend upon prayer and the blessing of God. The author first conducts a biblical and theoretical study of the discipling of non-literate believers in an African setting. He then conducted a survey of 314 Zairian young people as a first step toward preparing cassette istructional material. This material was used for five months by cassette monitors and then evaluated. These included Bible study, covenant group commitment, spiritual discipline, liturgy and ethical reflection.  These forms were focused on grace and themselves constituted means of grace.  By examining closely where they have fallen into cheap grace and where they are called to receive and embody God's costly grace, participants significantly enhanced their understanding of God's grace in their lives.
